Sack Lunch Ministry
For over 30 years Emmanuel's Sack Lunch program has been feeding the hungry in Champaign-Urbana. Each weekday at 9am, two dozen nutritionally balanced lunches, packed to be portable, are given out from the Emmanuel office door to the homeless and working poor. We serve everyone who comes to us unconditionally, no questions asked. This regular, ordinary act of love provides about 6000 meals a year to the hungry and is funded completely by the generosity of parishioners and other community members. A donation of $60 to our outreach fund pays for a day of lunches; $30, for half a day. $2.50 feeds one hungry person. Give what you are able. You can also ship us needed items direct, with just a few clicks, via our Amazon Wishlist. At intervals we assemble sack lunches with a small crew; it's meaningful work that not only feeds the hungry but also helps us build community. (We can arrange for your group or organization to come pack lunches as a service project as well.) We also have openings weekday mornings to hand out the lunches to those who come to the door; this is about a 30-minute commitment. Contact Deacon Chris Hopkins to take part in either of these service opportunities. |
