Worship means "to ascribe worth," and as Christians we ascribe ultimate worth to God. Doing that in an organized way together helps train us to do it in our daily lives too. Most Christians set aside Sunday for corporate worship, and Emmanuel is no exception.
Sunday morning Mass forms the heart of our Christian community life; each week the congregation and clergy offer two services in a classic, historically rooted style. Holy Eucharist Rite I is used in an intimate spoken service at 8:00 a.m. At 10:15 a.m., Rite II is celebrated with a choral service that offers many members of our community opportunities to contribute by reading, singing, leading prayers, serving the bread and wine, greeting, and more. In the Episcopal Church we invite all Baptized Christians to God's Table to receive communion.
Each Sunday service is followed by a coffee hour, providing an opportunity for worshipers to build relationships in a casual setting.
In addition to our public Sunday services, we pray the ancient hours of the church on weekdays, keeping praise ascending to God in the downtown with a constant rhythm. Evening Prayer takes place Monday - Saturday at 5:15pm (Mass on Wednesday) and we pray Morning Prayer Monday - Friday at 7:00 a.m. (Learn more about the Daily Office.)
