Hunger is ever-present, right here in Champaign-Urbana. Numbers continue to grow for those who do not have enough to eat. Regularly, Emmanuel parishioners rotate to take food on a weekly basis to a family that has been referred through our outreach partner empty tomb. For a once-a-year outreach during the week of Lent 4, the “Week of Grace”, empty tomb wants as many families as possible to receive a week's worth of food. Emmanuel has answered the call by setting a goal of making 20 in-person "Week of Grace" grocery deliveries as part of our shared Lenten practice.
To feed that many families, we need more than just our “regulars.” We need you! The deadline for signing up is March 15.You may sign up as individuals or groups to both purchase and take one week of groceries to a local family in need. (Reimbursement is available if you would not otherwise be able to afford to take part; just let the office know. Donations to help us reimburse members are also welcome; simply note “food deliveries” on your donation.)
Once you have signed up below, expect to get shopping guidelines, along with the name and address of a household, number and age of those in the family, any food allergies, and how to contact them. You will make arrangements directly with your family for a delivery time during the week of April 1-6. If you have questions, see Deacon Chris. Help us feed the hungry: Emmanuel delivers!
