Simple Silent Soup Supper
with Binge-Read of the Gospel of Mark
6pm, Sunday February 18th
Enter Lent with a birds-eye view of Emmanuel's shared Lenten Scripture passages, monastic-style. As part of our group Lenten pilgrimage this year, we'll have a simple soup supper in silence while hearing the Word of God read to us by a series of different voices. The Gospels were designed for oral communication, and some of us may never have taken in Mark in one sitting!
Mark is appointed for daily reading in Lent in the Book of Common Prayer lectionary this year. This shortest of all New Testament gospels is likely the first to have been written, and recounts what Jesus did in a vivid style, where one incident follows directly upon another. In this almost breathless narrative, Mark stresses Jesus’ message about the kingdom of God breaking into human life now, and reveals Jesus himself as the good news.
This event is free and open to all. RSVP on Facebook, or just show up! Enter through the parking lot doors.
