Our 2015 Adult Forum Lenten Series - The Book of Psalms
This 7 week series on the Book of Psalms that meets each Sunday at 9:10 am beginning February 8th. Often referred to as a “School of Prayer,” the Psalms not only enable us to verbalize our thanksgiving and joy, but they also give us a vocabulary and language to express our pain, grief, rage, and doubt when we enter into seasons of life that are difficult. They give us permission to express what is in the depths of our souls to the God from whom no secrets are hid. Through a combination of lecture, small group discussion, activities, and personal reflection, our hope is that at the end of course, you will be able to read and pray the Psalter with a greater and deeper understanding.
Our facilitator will be Diane Mumma-Wakabayashi, a parishioner at Emmanuel. Diane’s early graduate studies were in Bible and Theology, but later focused on the linguistic, historical, and archaeological context of the Old Testament/Hebrew Bible. She has taught Hebrew and Old Testament in both academic and church settings.
