The Altar Guild of Emmanuel was organized in the fall of 1927 under the direction of Father Herbert Miller. The first meeting was held in the rectory where Father Miller explained the duties of the Guild, the preparation of the Altar for Holy Communion and the care of vestments.
Today the Guild remains essential in making worship happen, even though most of their work is behind the scenes. They serve God as a labor of love in polishing the silver and brass, cleaning the linens, preparing the altar, setting out the bread and wine and supplying funds for the purchase of all altar supplies. The Altar Guild's most historic enterprise is the annual Easter Egg Project, which is the largest fundraiser for the Guild. Click here to see more detail about this unique Emmanuel tradition. |
